HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR HAIR AT HOME

choosing the right shampoo

Investing in the right shampoo is the most essential part of at home hair care. Shampoo is what comes in contact with your hair the most. Using the wrong shampoo can cause your hair to be dry, frizzy, oily and lead to your color fading quickly. When you are using the right shampoo it helps give you better results for you and your hair. It becomes more manageable and easier to style. The color lasts longer and maintains the toner better. It gives you shine and healthy glowing hair.

How to shampoo your hair

I like to shampoo my hair the amount of days it’s been since I’ve washed it. I almost always shampoo twice to really cleanse my scalp. But for the ladies who go 3 - 4 days, make sure you are shampooing your hair to the point that your shampoo gets sudsy. This is a way to indicate that your hair and scalp are clean. It’s been a great way to avoid your hair from build up and getting greasy. If you’re on your fourth day without washing it, you may need to shampoo 4 times to get it really clean.

Using a daily leave in conditioner

Consistency is key here. As we have all heard this before, it holds value in your hair care as well. I never go a day without using products to protect and nourish my hair. Think of this as brushing your teeth. It should just become part of your everyday routine. Everyday ( on hair washing day ) be sure to use a daily leave in conditioner. This can be in the form of a spray or oil. All product lines have a daily leave in that has many benefits to your hair. I personally use the Davines Oi All In One Milk. For women who have thick and frizzy hair, feel free to use a combo of a daily leave in conditioner and an oil. The more moisture the better.

The Effortless blowdry

Yes, blowdrying is a very tedious chore to many of us, so heres a simple trick to make it easier. I never blow dry my hair straight out of the shower. It takes twice as long to dry soaking wet hair. If time allows, put your hair up in a towel after the shower and let it towel dry for 30 min - 1 hr. Let the towel soak up the moisture as much as it can. When it comes time to start your blow dry, do a rough dry with your fingers first and remove 85% of the water. Then use your paddle brush or round brush to start styling your hair. This will definitely take some time and effort off of styling your hair.

second day hair for the lazy gals

Have you found a dry shampoo that you love? There are many different ones to choose from. Using a dry shampoo is a great way to soak up the oils form the day before and let you go that extra day without washing. I personally don’t like to go more than 2-3 days, but if you can get away with it that’s great! To use the dry shampoo, spray generously at your roots. Sectioning each section along your hair line. Let the product settle for a moment or two. Then with your fingers or a brush start to scrub your scalp to mesh the product in with your hair. If you notice the dry shampoo turning white, just use your fingers and scrub your roots. The product just needs to settle in a bit.

To recap the important moments:

Book a haircut appointment every 8 weeks.

Shampoo your hair twice. Once to remove oils, dirts and products. And again to fully cleanse your hair and scalp.

Use a daily leave in conditioner after washing your hair. This will help nourish and protect your hair from hot tools when styling.

Following these simple steps will help your hair looking and feeling it’s best!

Katie
